Week 18

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday. Not that much to share, other than:
  • I've only gained 5 pounds my entire 4 and a half months of being pregnant.
  • His heartbeat yesterday was 155 bpm -- and he was kicking throughout that, although I couldn't feel it right then due to my position, but I had been feeling some movement earlier when my pants were cutting into my abdomen somewhat.
  • We go back in two weeks for the "big" ultrasound where they'll take his measurements and make sure everything is where it's supposed to be and functioning properly.
  • Two weeks after that, I'll have another visit with my doctor.

That's about it. I haven't had as much of an increase in my appetite as I thought I would, although I still start thinking about what I'm having for lunch at about 9:30 each morning! I guess this will increase as the baby actually starts getting bigger. I guess the same will go for my weight, although I'm anticipating staying under my doc's 25 lb pregnancy weight gain. Hopefully this doesn't mean I'm in for a big weight gain in a short period of time. However, just as a precaution, I'm going to try and do a better job about applying lotion and such every day -- especially in the belly region! I want to avoid those pesky stretch marks as much as possible.

I'm still able to wear a good bit of my regular clothes, but every day it's becoming more of a challenge to wear something comfortable, yet work-appropriate. My friend Alicia is coming to BR this weekend and we're going to go look at baby stuff and maternity clothes, and maybe get a couple of wardrobe staples -- black pants, cute "work-appropriate" tops, maybe a skirt with an elastic waistband, etc...Already this week I've had to buy two pairs of flats b/c my girls at work were fussing at me about my high heels. They said my legs will thank me later on. So being that the only flats I own were of the flip-flop variety, I had to get shoes that would work for work.

That's about it. We're about to eat some steaks that Scotty is taking off the grill...yummy!

The last couple of weeks...

Well, not much has been going on since we found out we're having a boy. Here's a picture of me taken a couple of days after that visit -- about 2 weeks ago. I go back on Wednesday for another visit with my doctor. I went to the beach last weekend with some of my girls from work. Our boss graciously lets us use his condo for a long weekend each summer as our "Administrative Professionals" gift. Nice gift, huh? We had a great time. I tolerated the sun pretty well. All except for my ankles. I'll spare you the picture, but we'll leave it at my sunblock was apparently old and didn't cover my legs as well as it did the rest of my body. Additionally, I had some areas near my ankles that didn't get any sun at all, and others that got burned to the extent that it looked like I'd been beaten they turned so purple for a few days. Luckily, all that splotchiess and discoloration has passed and I no longer look ridiculous in a dress or skirt. Another thing that I "got" while we were in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores was a little onesie from the Polo outlet in Foley. It was a steal and is so cute as you can see:

It's a 6-month, so he'll be able to wear it next spring and summer.

This weekend is a happy and sad one for me. Today is Rachel's birthday (25!). Happy Birthday Aunt Boo! Tomorrow will be Scotty's first Father's Day, although he's not officially a father just yet. I'm also reminded that my own father won't be here to enjoy his grandson and future grandchildren. I know he's looking down and is excited with everything that's going on, probably wishing that he could be here, too. And although it makes me sad to think that my own dad isn't "here," I think we've got a pretty good "bonus" grandpa in David (mom's bf/future husband).

I'll leave you with a picture of one of the things I got Scotty for Father's Day. As I'm sure most of you are aware, Scotty has high hopes for his son when it comes to golf (understatement of the year!). So, as an inspiration for him, I bought the baby his first pair of golf shoes. They don't have spikes or anything, but they're made to look like real golf shoes. They say "Footjoy" in green on the toe-area. For those of you not familiar with the golf lingo, Footjoy is a brand of golf shoe; specifically, it's the brand Scotty wears. He thought the baby golf shoes were great and he can't wait until the baby can actually wear them!

Baby Rain is a ...

BOY!!!!

We were able to have a sonogram yesterday; Baby Rain fully cooperated. When the tech first found him, he was jumping all aound and kicking me, sucking his thumb. You couldn't tell what he was because the umbilical cord was right between his legs. I thought to myself, "Great! This was the one thing I didn't want -- an ambiguous determination." He finally slowed down enough and got into such a position that you could clearly see that there was more than the umbilical cord in between his legs! We were so excited! Scotty was fully expecting a girl and I think he was a little shocked at the prospect of having a son. He got over it quickly and you could see the pride all over his face. It was such a sweet moment that I don't think I'll ever forget.

We called the grandmothers, great-grandparents, aunts and uncles and shared the good news. Everyone was thrilled. Scotty emailed some people about it. The subject heading read: The Next Tiger Woods...with the message: It's a boy! Needless to say, he is beyond excited at having a son and has already pre-ordered Baby Rain's first set of golf clubs. Just kidding...I think. I'm excited, too. In fact, as we were leaving the doctor's office, we got into the car and high-fived one another at the prospect of not having to pay for a wedding! With our firstborn anyway...

Although there's not as much cute boy stuff as there is girl stuff, little boys sure love their Mamas and I am so looking forward to having a "little Scotty."
